Abstract
Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze how patients experience pain during cataract surgery and the possible impact of speaking to the patients during the procedure. Materials and methods: Fifty-seven patients that were to undergo cataract surgery were enrolled in the study and randomly assigned to an experimental or a control group after they filled out the STAI and PCS. The experimental group was distracted during the procedure by the surgeon speaking to them. NRS and STAI once again were used after the procedure to evaluate how pain was perceived. Results: No significant difference in pain perception could be shown between the experimental and the control group. But there were significant differences between men and women in their pain perception shown by the results of the PCS helplessness section as well as the post interventional STAI results. Also, some positive correlation was found between duration od surgery and NRS results. Conclusions: As of now distracting patients by speaking to them could not be proven to aid in decrease pain perceived during cataract surgery.
Abstract (croatian)
Ciljevi: Cilj ovog rada je utvrditi kako bolesnici percepiraju bol za vrijeme operacije mrene i kako utječe na to razgovor s bolesnikom za vrijeme operativnog zahvata. Materijali i metode: U studiju je bilo uključeno 57 bolesnika s mrenom. Nasumično su bili podijeljeni u ispitaničku i kontrolnu skupinu nakon što su ispunili SRAI i PCS upitnike. Za vrijeme zahvata je operater pričao s bolesnicima u ispitaničkoj skupini. Svi bolesnici su ponovno nakon operacije popunjavali NRS i STAI upitnik kako bi se ispitala njihova percepcija boli. Rezultati: Nije nađena značajna razlika u percepciji boli između dviju skupina, no nađena je značajna razlika u percepciji boli između muškaraca i žena što se očitovalo u rezltatima PCS skale i to u dijelu koji definira pespomoćnosti i u postoperativnom STAI upitniku. Također je nađena određena razina pozitivne korelacije između trajanja operacije i NRSa. Zaključak: Za sada nema dokaza da distrakcija u obliku govora s pacijentom za vrijeme operacije može smanjiti percepciju boli koja se javlja za vrijeme operacije mrene.
