Abstract Cilj istraživanja: Cilj ovog istraživanja je utvrditi znanje i stavove studenata medicine, dentalne medicine i farmacije o farmakovigilanciji i prijavljivanju nuspojava, ispitati njihovu spremnost za prijavljivanje sumnje na nuspojavu lijeka u svojoj budućoj praksi. Materijal i metode: Ispitanici uključeni u ovo istraživanje bili su studenti medicine, dentalne medicine i farmacije svih godina studija Medicinskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Splitu u akademskoj godini 2020./2021. Zaključak: Studenti farmacije imaju višu razinu znanja i pozitivnije stavove o farmakovigilanciji i prijavljivanju nuspojava u odnosu na studente medicine i dentalne medicine.
Abstract (english) Objectives: The aim of this research is to establish the knowledge, attitude and readiness towards pharmacovigilance and adverse drug reaction reporting among students of Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy. Materials and methods: The participants of this research were students of all years from the University of Split's programmes of Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy in the 2020/2021 academic year. A translated version of a poll questionnaire written and formed by Alkayyal et al. was used in this research. The poll questionnaire is consisted of 34 questions divided into 4 categories: demographical characteristics, examination of knowledge and attitudes towards pharmacovigilance and adverse drug reaction reporting, opinions about coverage of the topic of pharmacovigilance in their curriculum and the willingness of students for ADR reporting. After the collection of data, a statistical analysis was performed in which the range of statistical significance was set as p<0.05. Results: In total 196 students of the University of Split School of Medicine took place in the research, 126 of which were Pharmacy students. The majority of students included in the research were 3rd year students; out of which the majority were female. In comparison to students of Dental Medicine and Medicine, Pharmacy students showed a greater level of knowledge about pharmacovigilance (p<0.001). Upper year students of all study programs showed a higher level of knowledge in comparison to students from lower years (p<0.001). Overall, 12.3% of students stated that the topic of pharmacovigilance is not covered well enough in their curriculum. However, 10.2% of students strongly agreed on being very well prepared with their current knowledge for reporting any notable ADRs in their future practice. Conclusion: Pharmacy students have a greater level of knowledge and more positive attitudes about pharmacovigilance and ADR reporting in comparison to students of Medicine and Dental Medicine. Overall, greater knowledge was seen amongst upper year students. The majority of students consider pharmacovigilance to be well covered in their curriculum, however they consider themselves not being well enough prepared for ADR reporting they may encounter in their future practice. This indicates that students require additional education in the field of pharmacovigilance.
