Objectives: To determine the frequency, clinical features, etiology and outcome of patients hospitalized for febrile seizures at Department of Paediatrics of Split University Hospital Center. To investigate what proportion of febrile seizures occur during the course of acute gastroenterocolitis. To compare the clinical features, etiology and outcome of patients with seizures that occur during gastroenterokolitis with febrile seizures in the course of other infections. Materials and methods: A retrospective study was conducted on all patients hospitalized for febrile seizures at Department of Paediatrics of Split University Hospital Center in the period from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022. Discharge letters and medical histories collected from medical records in written and electronic form were analyzed. The research was conducted on a sample of 214 subjects hospitalized due to febrile seizures. Results: The results of this study indicated an increase in the incidence of febrile seizures during the observed three-year period. The largest number of subjects (83.2%) met the criteria for simple febrile seizures. Clinical signs of respiratory system infection were present in the largest number of subjects. Of the isolated causative agents, SARS-CoV-2 and Rotavirus are the most common causative agents of febrile seizures (7.3%). Analysis of the clinical characteristics of febrile seizures in the course of acute gastroenterocolitis did not reveal a statistically significant difference compared to febrile seizures in the course of other infections. However, by comparing the two most common causative agents of the disease, it has been proven that febrile seizures during the course of COVID-19 occurs more often on the first day of the disease compared to febrile seizures during the course of Rotavirus infection. Conclusion: Febrile convulsions occur in children with a normal perinatal history. The median incidence is 23 months, and more than half of the patients are male children. Simple febrile seizures are the most common form of the disease. Most seizures are of short duration and end with spontaneous recovery, which is why the use of anti-seizure drugs is rarely indicated. SARS-CoV-2 and Rotavirus are the most common causative agents of febrile seizures. Febrile seizures during the course of COVID-19 occurs more often on the first day of the disease compared to febrile seizures during the course of Rotavirus infection. Febrile seizures in the course of acute gastroenterocolitis do not differ clinically from febrile seizures in the course of other febrile conditions.
