rukometne sezone 2022./2023.. Ispitanici su članovi RK „Split“, RK „Ribola Kaštela“, RK
„Trogir“ i RK „Balić&Metličić“. Upitnik sadržava 36 pitanja podijeljenih u tri dijela. U prvom
dijelu upitnika obuhvaćena su pitanja o spolu i vremenskom razdoblju bavljenja rukometom.
Drugi dio upitnika čine pitanja o ozljedama glave, orofacijalnim i dentalnim ozljedama te
drugim ozljedama karakterističnima za rukomet. Pitanja o prevenciji dentalnih ozljeda
11 (22%) sa pozicije srednjeg vanjskog, 9 (18%) pivota, 9 (18%) vratara i 8 (16%) ih je sa
pozicije lijevog/desnog krila.
godina.
struktura i zuba. Svi anketirani rukometaši upoznati su bili s učinkovitosti dentalnih štitnika u
prevenciji ozljeda, no unatoč tome i dalje ih nisu koristili. Iz tog razloga važno nam je u
budućnosti dodatno educirati i osvjestiti sportske timove o važnosti prevencije ozljeda.
Abstract (english) Objectives: Since handball is a contact sport with a high incidence of player injuries, the aim
of this study is to assess the frequency of head injuries, orofacial area and dental injuries in
handball players and their knowledge of the use of dental protectors.
Methods: The research involves 50 handball players from different positions and was
conducted during the handball season 2022/2023. The respondents are members of RK "Split",
RK "Ribola Kaštela", RK "Trogir" and RK "Balić&Metličić". The questionnaire contains 36
questions divided into three parts. The first part of the questionnaire covers questions about
gender and the time period of handball practice. The second part of the questionnaire consists
of questions about head injuries, orofacial and dental injuries and other injuries characteristic
of handball. Questions about the prevention of dental injuries were included in the third part of
the questionnaire.
Results: The survey included 13 (26%) players in the left/right backcourt position, 11 (22%)
from the position of center backcourt, 9 (18%) pivots, 9 (18%) goalkeepers and 8 (16%) from
the position of left/right wing. The average age of players is 21, and they have been engaged
in handball for an average of 11 years. During their career so far, 45 (90%) have been injured.
The most common injuries were injuries to the leg (38 respondents, 76%) and head (38
respondents, 76%). In dental injuries, the upper central incisors were most often affected, and
the type of injury was mainly a fracture of the crown of the tooth (16 subjects, 32%). Only 4
(8%) of respondents use dental protectors, the rest cite discomfort as a reason for not wearing
them or consider them unnecessary.
Conclusion: The results of this survey have shown that handball is a sport with a high
probability of injury to both the musculoskeletal system and the head, orofacial structures and
teeth. All surveyed handball players were familiar with the effectiveness of dental protectors
in the prevention of injuries, but despite that they still did not use them. For this reason, it is
important for us in the future to further educate and raise awareness of sports teams about the
importance of injury prevention.
