Research objectives: To present the epidemiological characteristics of patients treated at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with Rheumatology, University Hospital of Split, after surgical treatment of femoral fracture in the period from December 2020 to February 2021. Subjects and methods: This retrospective research was conducted at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with Rheumatology at the University Hospital of Split. It included 30 patients who were treated after surgical treatment of femur fracture and 10 patients who were treated after surgical treatment without femur fracture. Results: There were 40 patients in total: 30 of them suffered femur fracture whereas10 were electively operated on. Among patients who had a fracture of the femur, there were five times more female than male patients, and the study found a difference (p<0.001). Among the 25 patients who were observed, 24 were older than 65. Most often, patients suffered from pertrochanteric fracture of the femur (46.67%), while the smallest number of observed patients had subtrochanteric fracture (10%). The examination revealed a difference in prevalence according to the type of fracture (p=0.003). Osteosynthesis with PFNA was performed in more than half of patients. The most common complication was urinary tract infection (35%), followed by urinary tract infection in combination with anaemia (12.5%). The most common assessment of rehabilitation success is good, and it is twice as common as sufficient and excellent. IPP, as a risk factor for fractures, is very often used in patients who have suffered a fracture of the femur, that is in 55% of patients. Conclusion: Out of all types of femur fractures, pertrochanteric fracture was the most common. Women were five times more likely to be treated for femur fractures than men, in 80% of cases those were women over the age of 65. More than half of patients with femur fractures underwent osteosynthesis with PFNA which preserves the native joint and provides better long-term function and mobility. More than half of the patients had some complications during treatment; in most cases, it was a urinary tract infection.
