Research objective: The aim of this study was to determine the existence of sexual dimorphism of mandibular frontal teeth in the modern population of southern Croatia. Materials and methods: After filtering the database according to the redefined exclusion criteria, 60 CBCT scans of the preserved dentition of living subjects were included in the study, with an equal division into both sexes. The age of the participants ranged from 21 to 64 years. Using a measuring tool in a computer program for viewing images, the dimensions of the total tooth length, crown length and crown width for the following teeth were obtained: central mandibular incisors, lateral mandibular incisors and mandibular canines. The length of the roots is obtained by calculation from the difference between the total length and length of the crown. The data was tested for normality of distribution by multiple Shapiro-Wilk tests for all combinations. The sexes were compared by one-way multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), and the results were completed by post-hoc analysis by multiple t-tests. Results: A statistically significant difference between the sexes was found for all three analyzed types of teeth. The results of t-tests singled out seven of the twelve measures that contribute most to sexual dimorphism (P < 0.01 (P > 0.05)); the total length of the canines, the width of the crown of the medial incisors, the length of the crowns of the mandibular incisors, and the length of the roots of all measured teeth. Males have longer mandibular canines and longer root length on all lower frontal teeth. The crowns of the mandibular incisors of females are larger, and the crowns of the canines do not show features of sexual dimorphism. Conclusion: Sexual dimorphism is present in certain measures of the length and width of the mandibular incisors and canines.
