RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The objective of this research is to show whether the medical students of the University of Split School of Medicine change their attitude towards PTSD and reject the stigmatizing attitudes which are constantly imposed through the media in our country. RESEARCH STRUCTURE: Study is organised as intervention research of attitude towards PTSD considering PTSD education (intervention). RESEARCH LOCATION: The research was conducted at the University of Split School of Medicine. PARTICIPANTS: The subjects were 4th year students of University of Split School of Medicine who attended the course of Psychiatry in 2011. The sample size was 30 subjects-students, including 12 women and 18 men aged 22-24. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The influence of education on change in student attitudes towards PTSD was questionned. For this purpose I applied questionnaire which I compiled myself (Appendix 1). I created the questionnaire after systematically studying the literature on this topic. The first questionnaire was handed out to students on the 9th of May, after their first Psychiatry lecture, and the second one on the 27th of May, after their last lecture. RESULTS: The results of this research showed that student attitudes towards PTSD do not change after the completion of Psychiatry course (P=0,274). Students' attitudes before the course were positive, and stayed positive after carried out education. CONCLUSION: Psychoeducation did not change student attitudes towards PTSD, but it contributed to better knowledge about PTSD. Student attitudes towards PTSD before Psychiatry course were positive and remained that way after the carried out education, but did not improve significantly. Further studies are needed to cover all 4th year students and to compare the attitudes of medical students versus other age, social and educational profiles of citizens.
