Objectives: The aim of this tudy was to determine the demographic characteristics of subjects with facial trauma, as well as to determine the clinical characteristics of subjects with facial trauma. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery of Universty Hospital of Split. The research was approved by the Ethics Committee of KBC Split. The research included respondents of both sexes, aged 18 and over, who were hospitalized due to facial trauma at the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery of University Hospital of Split from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2021. Results: A total of 781 subjects were included in the research, of which 622 (78.4%) were men and 159 (21.6%) were women. The average age of the respondents was 33 years. Out of a total of 781 subjects, as many as 663 (82.3%) received antibiotics, while 71 (9.0%) subjects underwent corticosteroid (antiedema) therapy. The most common fracture was the zygomatic bone fracture. It was diagnosed in 348 (44.5%) respondents. The next most common fracture is the lower jaw, which was diagnosed in 237 (30.4%) subjects. A fracture of the upper jaw was diagnosed in 84 (10.8%) subjects. In 73 (9.4%) respondents there was some form of tooth injury. The most common form of injury is a fracture of the crown or root of the tooth, which was diagnosed in 54 (74%) subjects. There is a soft tissue injury in 564 (72.3%) subjects. The most common types of injury were bruising (contusion) in 301 (43.7%) subjects and abrasions (excoriation) in 207 (30%) subjects. As for surgical therapy, the most common method was osteosynthesis with titanium plates in 424 (54.2%) subjects. This was followed by intermaxillary or intermaxillary fixation (IMF) in 153 (19.5%) subjects. Tamponade of the maxillary sinus was performed in 78 (10.0%) subjects. Conclusions: The most common etiological factor of facial trauma is a fall, while the most common fracture of the facial bones is that of the zygomatic bone. Almost half of mandible fractures are bilateral, and the most commonly fractured region of the mandible is the body. The most common therapeutic method for orbital floor fractures is orbital floor plastic surgery.
